What is Battle of the Books?
The Battle of the Books is a motivational reading program offered to fourth and fifth graders. The goals of the program are for students to read great books and enjoy friendly competition. Teams of five students are formed to answer questions about books on the Battle of the Books Reading List. Elimination rounds are held in the library to determine the Opstad Battle of the Books Champion. The district competition for 2019 will be held at Cascade View Elementary.
How Do Students Join Battle of the Books?
Students must read at least three of the books on the Battle of the Books list to join a team. Of course, the more they read the more successful they’ll be in the competition. Teams of five students can sign up in the library in December and will meet in the library during recess time or quiet reading time after lunch. The Opstad competition and elimination rounds will begin in February and the district challenge will take place on April 26th at Cascade View Elementary.
Thanks to our wonderful P.T.A., multiple copies of the Battle books can be found in our library. Interested students are encouraged to begin reading now!
